TRAFFIC ADVISORY – 2017 DALLAS HOLIDAY PARADE

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2017

 

Please be advised, a special event the Dallas Holiday Parade is scheduled to occur Saturday, Dec. 2.   The parade will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to draw a large crowd of spectators.  Road closures related to this special event will impact traffic in the Central Business District.

The construction of bleachers in the parking lanes along Commerce Street will impact traffic and reduce available metered parking beginning Wednesday, November 29. Bleacher construction is not to interrupt peak rush hour traffic between 7 – 9 a.m. and 4 – 6 p.m. The following bleacher construction timeline will be followed:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 29 – south parking lane of Commerce Street from Field Street to Saint Paul Street AND the north parking lane from Saint Paul Street to Harwood Street
  • Thursday, Nov. 30 – north parking lane of Commerce Street from Murphy Drive to Browder Street
  • Friday, Dec. 1:
    – north parking lane of Commerce Street from Browder Street to Saint Paul Street AND the south parking lane from Saint Paul Street to Harwood Street
    – north side of the intersection at Akard Street and Commerce Street will be closed to traffic from 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, through 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

All bleachers will be removed and meters unhooded by 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4.

Dallas Holiday Parade, Saturday, Dec. 2

  • Commerce Street will be closed to traffic and parking from Houston Street to Harwood Street between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • All parking is prohibited on Commerce Street between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Alternate routes:

South Lamar and South Griffin – north and south bound traffic will cross until 9:30 a.m. or until DPD closure for pedestrian safety

Elm Street – Primary route for west bound traffic

Main Street – Eastbound and westbound traffic open

Cadiz Street – Primary route for eastbound traffic south of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas

The following streets will be closed to traffic and parking for the staging of floats, bands and buses from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2:

  • Houston Street – All lanes closed from Main Street south across the viaduct
  • Market Street – All lanes closed from Commerce Street to Young Street
  • Austin Street – All lanes closed from Commerce Street to Wood Street
  • Jackson Street – All lanes closed from Houston Street to Lamar Street
  • Wood Street – All lanes closed from Houston Street to Lamar Street
  • Marilla Street – All lanes closed from Young Street to Akard Street, between 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Canton Street – All lanes closed from South Saint Paul Street to Akard Street between 7 a.m. and noon
  • Hotel Street – all lanes closed from Memorial to Reunion Boulevard East
  • Reunion Boulevard East – All lanes closed from Hotel Street to Houston Street 

Alternate routes:

Access to residents and businesses will be provided by DPD officers at the intersection of Harwood Street and Wood Street

Hyatt Regency Dallas access is open from Sports Street or Reunion Boulevard East to Hyatt Regency Drive

Omni Hotel access is open from the south from Market Street

Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center access is open from the south:

From R.L. Thornton (I-30) West, exit Ervay/Griffin Street to the convention center

From I-35E North, take exit 427D E to R. L. Thornton Freeway (I-30) and exit Griffin Street

Greyhound Bus Station – access open from Lamar Street

Adolphus Hotel parking – access open from Main Street

Neiman Marcus parking garage – access open from Jackson Street

Dallas Fish Market parking – access open from Main Street

Houston Street Viaduct – alternate route is I-35 and exit Colorado Boulevard

City Hall parking garage will not be impacted

The following streets may experience intermittent delays due to parade dispersal, between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2:

  • Harwood Street – from Commerce Street to Canton Street
  • Canton Street – from Harwood Street to Griffin Street
  • Griffin Street – northbound lanes from Canton Street to Young Street
