The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) is a national labor union representing nearly 80,000 performers, journalists and other artists working in the entertainment and news media.

Another way to protect yourself... use a "franchised agent." This is a person, firm or corporation that has entered into an agreement with SAG and/or AFTRA under which they agree to abide by certain rules and conditions when dealing with performers who work within SAG and/or AFTRA's jurisdiction.
