In partnership with the inaugural “Shared Stores Film Series” presented by Studio Movie Grill and in association with the Dallas Film Society High School Roundtable, Women in Film Dallas and SMG bring you a screening of THE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT along with a panel of empowered women who will share their stories with the audience.

The winner of the $1000 high school educational grant for best PSA by a student awarded by SMG in partnership with Dallas International Film Festival will be announced and WIFD will bestow an additional $500 grant to the film department at the winner’s school.

Thanks to the generosity of Studio Movie Grill, all ticket proceeds will benefit the Grants & Scholarship Fund of Women in Film Dallas.

Also at the screening the winner of SMG’s Shared Stores Film Series PSA Competition for high school students led by a female will be announced. The winning PSA filmmaker will receive a $1,000 educational scholarship and the PSA will show on all SMG DFW screens. Women in Film Dallas will bestow an additional $500 grant to the film department at the winner’s high school.


Dr. Candice Bledsoe is a faculty member at SMU’s Simmons School of Education and executive director of the Action Research Center in Dallas, Texas. Her research explores equity, access, and the experience of underrepresented students in higher education. She has received numerous fellowships including: The National Endowment of the Humanities, the New Leadership Academy, National Center for Institutional Diversity, University of Michigan, and Boone Texas Project for Human Rights Education. Dr. Bledsoe is the recipient of the 2013 SMU Women’s Symposium Profiles of Community Leadership Award. Dr. Bledsoe received a Doctorate in Education from The University of Southern California. She also holds degrees from Southern Methodist University and Baylor University.

Melina McKinnon is CEO of M3 Films and has been collaborating with filmmakers across the world to bring their collective visions to the screen since 1999. As a mission-driven and award-winning filmmaker, Melina hails from South-Africa and proudly hangs her hat in Dallas. Under the Movies with a Mission banner, Melina and her husband Michael Cain have produced films such as: the Sundance and HBO award-winning feature-length documentary TV Junkie, Faces of Addiction, Angels and Autism, Torey’s Distraction and Images of Independence. As a complement to her production work, Melina is also focused on film finance and served as an Executive Producer on the Steve Jobs bio-pic Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher. Melina co-founded FilmMatters – a film and panel symposium which focuses on the common challenges filmmakers, activists and non-profit organizations often face in the long journey to making a “movie with a mission.” Currently, Melina has several documentaries in production including Stanley Marcus, Miracle Fishing, and The Starck Club.

Kadie Lynn Roberson is a 13-year-old country singer from Kemp, Texas who began singing when she was just three years old, and her parents first noticed her talent when she sang “Amazing Grace” at church. She has since traveled all throughout North Texas to perform, and has also grown to become a songwriter. Her 1st Original Recorded song, “Stronger” made it to #38 on the Texas Radio Music Charts in 2016, and at the age 12, she was the youngest artist to chart on the Texas Radio Music Chart. Kadie has opened for Vanilla Ice and Kevin Fowler, and even sang for the Prime Minister of the Bahamas. She was a semi-finalist of the popular national talent show, America`s Got Talent, season 11. Recently, she signed a recording and promotion non-inhibiting contract with State Fair Records.
